In early September, 1998, four of us spent 10 days hiking in the mountains of central Colorado. Dennis and I had discussed such a trip earlier in the year. He suggested inviting 2 of his friends, who'd previously hiked in the area. David and Marianne really made the trip work well.
We met in Leadville and hiked for 2 days to acclimate to the altitude. Then, we set up a campsite near Mt. Elbert, Colorado's highest peak. We topped that the next day. After a good night's rest, we moved on to a day trip in Aspen and the Maroon Bells.
Our last campsite was in the San Juan's, East of Silverton, in the SW corner of the state. We spent the last 3 days there. All-in-all, it was a beautiful trip to a beautiful area.
